"China, A Genuine Friend Of Nigeria" – Atiku

Nigeria's former vice president, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, has called on African countries - and Nigeria in particular - to get more involved with China in the areas of economic and political participations, saying that China has indeed become an indisputable friend.

Atiku made this statement yesterday in Abuja at the formal presentation of a book titled "China -Africa: Issues, Challenges and Possibilities" written by a journalist, Mr. Charles Onunaiju.

African leaders vow to improve trade ties with China

ADDIS ABABA, July 17 (Xinhua) -- African leaders have pledged to strengthen economic ties and cooperation with China and attract more Chinese investments in infrastructure and transportation.

Kadre Ouedraogo, head of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), told Xinhua on Monday that African leaders were eager to open new offices in China as African economies continue benefitting from China's growth.

China still a top market for US firms

American manufacturers still value the Chinese market, even after the US government's calls for a manufacturing renaissance on US soil, Zhang Xiangchen, director of the Ministry of Commerce's policy research office, said Sunday.

In recent years, the US government has been trying to encourage American manufacturing firms operating overseas to return to their home country as a way to accelerate the development of production centers locally.

China ups US debt holdings to $1.18t

Foreign holdings of US Treasury debt hit a record high of $5.1 trillion in February, with China remaining the nation's largest foreign creditor, according to data the US Treasury Department released Monday.

China's holdings increased for the second straight month, rising by $12.7 billion in January to $1.18 trillion.

From July to December of 2011, China reduced its position in US Treasury debt, with its holdings down $163 billion during the period.
